Dr. Katharina Wolf
Department of Neurosurgery, Medical Center, University of Freiburg, Germany
Dr. Wolf is a clinician-scientist at the Department of Neurosurgery, University Hospital Freiburg, Germany, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. J. Beck. She is part of an interdisciplinary team that includes clinicians, surgeons, radiologists, and physicists, all collaborating to enhance the understanding of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) homeostasis in both healthy and impaired conditions. As a board-certified neurologist, Dr. Wolf integrates clinical expertise with ground research, pre-clinical studies, and clinical trials. She has received training at Zurich, the Spinal Cord Injury Center Balgrist, Switzerland, and the Department of Neurology and Neurophysiology in Freiburg, Germany. She holds a six-year fellowship sponsored by the State of Baden-Württemberg and has secured several grants to support her research. Dr. Wolf’s clinical focus is on spontaneous intracranial hypotension and idiopathic intracranial hypertension. Her primary research centers on CSF flow and central nervous system (CNS) motion utilizing phase-contrast MRI. Her team has made significant strides in understanding CSF and CNS dynamics in patients with conditions such as degenerative cervical myelopathy, spontaneous intracranial hypotension, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, and normal-pressure hydrocephalus. Together with the team, Dr. Wolf aims to explore the intricate mechanisms of CSF homeostasis, improve diagnostic methods, and alleviate patient burdens.
