Katarina Laurell

Katarina Laurell (KL) serves as professor and senior consultant in neurology at Linköping University in Sweden. KL has been specialized in normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) for about 20 years, the interest evolved through clinical work and the gratifying experience of how patients improved in functional level and independency after shunt treatment. KL has mainly immersed in research on epidemiology, radiology, and diagnostics of NPH in combination with translational research on CSF and biopsies, collected during shunt surgery. Her research group have developed a screening scale, the iNPH Radscale (Kockum et al 2018), which has been implemented as a routine assessment tool for radiologists in Sweden and is used in other countries as well. KL has been the main supervisor of four PhD students who have defended their thesis within the field. In April 2025, KL had an H-index of 25 and published 53 peer reviewed articles.
