Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina da USP – University of Sao Paulo, Brazil

Fernanda Martins is a Physiatrist and Medical Coordinator for Advanced Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation Services at the Hospital das Clínicas, University of São Paulo Medical School (HCFMUSP) — serving more than 1,500 patients annually — and the Opalus Transition and Home Care Network in Brazil. She is currently a PhD Candidate at FMUSP, where her research focuses on transition care management, post-acute care, care pathways, integrated multimodal neuromodulation, and genetic polymorphisms in neuroplasticity.
With extensive experience in high-complexity hospitals across São Paulo, Dr. Martins has a distinguished background as a consultant for both pediatric and adult populations. Her clinical practice specializes in managing acutely acquired disabilities from neurological conditions, trauma, and chronic pain, with a focus on advanced interventions for spasticity and leading high-performance multidisciplinary teams.
Since 2013, she has supervised Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) residents, specializing in advanced integrated hospital rehabilitation. Her leadership was recognized in 2023 with the institutional award “Applause for You, Who Make It Happen” for the “Back Home” project. Since 2020, this initiative has provided over 1,000 public healthcare system (SUS) patients with timely access to intensive post-acute rehabilitation, effectively bridging the gap between acute recovery and long-term functional independence.
