
Jurgen Beck
Neurosurgeon, Chair, Department of Neurosurgery, University of Freiburg, Germany and Chair of the CSF-section of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS).
Juergen Beck’s surgical expertise spans brain and spinal tumors, vascular conditions, skull base pathologies, spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks, and chronic post-dural puncture headache (cPDPH).
At the Freiburg CSF Center, Prof. Beck focuses on CSF disorders, particularly spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) and spinal CSF leaks, positioning Freiburg as a global leader in this field. He has extensive surgical expertise and is developing surgical techniques for CSF leaks and cPDPH. Additionally, Prof. Beck and his team are actively developing novel diagnostic methodologies for CSF disorders, including MRI, infusion testing, and new biomarkers and biosensors.
Juergen Beck is the founder of the first interdisciplinary SIH boards in Switzerland and Germany, serves as the chair of the CSF Section of the EANS and was the corresponding author of the seminal publication of the Bern-Score. He is also a founding member of the International Society for Spinal CSF Leak (ISSCL). Juergen Beck initiated and chairs the Freiburg-Bern SIH visitorship live-course series.
