Professor Dr. med. Dr.h.c. Uwe Kehler

Professor Dr. med. Dr.h.c. Kehler is a neurosurgeon with extensive academic and clinical experience. He studied medicine in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and Hamburg, Germany, and completed residency training at the Medical University of Lübeck (1986–1992). His early research included a thesis on pilocytic astrocytomas (1988), followed by a PhD (2000) on neuroendoscopy of the cerebral ventricles.

From 1992 to 2005, he served as Consultant in Neurosurgery at the Medical Universities of Lübeck and Hamburg. Since 2006, he has been Professor of Neurosurgery at the Medical University of Lübeck, and from 2005 to 2026, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Asklepios Klinik Altona, Hamburg.

In 2021, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemitanu,” Chișinău, Moldova. He served as President of the International Hydrocephalus Society (2021–2023), he hosted the  Hydrocephalus World Conference (Hamburg, 2023), and was the Chairman of the WFNS Committee on Hydrocephalus and CSF Disorders (2023–2025).

Professor Kehler has authored 135 publications and organized over 50 international meetings worldwide. His outstanding expertise includes hydrocephalus, neuroendoscopy, skull base tumors, and microvascular decompression.

He is running the largest hydrocephalus clinic in Germany (Asklepios Klinik Altona, Hamburg).
